Joyce Meyer Online: You are going to have a great time and I can’t wait to see you there!
Joyce Meyer: John, I think these are very important issues that need to be addressed so we’re talking about honor, honor in the family unit, children honoring their parents, what a spirit of dishonor there is in society today, but I think a lot of times too the way parents talk to one another in the home in front of the children can even feed that dishonoring spirit that’s in the world because we teach our children a lot more by what they see us do than what we tell them to do, so parents need to be really wise about how they talk to one another.
John Bevere: Correct. I can walk into a family and I can tell you how the father treats the mother and the mother treats the father by looking at the children because of the way they treat each other and the way they speak to the mother and father. I’ve been traveling to churches for years and you know, if I go into a situation and this has been rare, where the kids have absolutely no respect for God, for their parents and for others, do you know what I find out? This has only happened very rarely but the parents weren’t living what they were preaching at the church at home so what was modeled before the kids was something contrary to what they were trying to teach from their pulpits. That’s why I believe it is so important what we put in front of our children, the people we let them be with.
Joyce Meyer Online: As a parent, I have made sure that my kids’ friends, I watch how they speak to me, how they speak to Lisa. I watch how they speak to others and I’ll watch them like at church — let’s say they’re friends from church — I’ll watch how they’re speaking to adults, how they’re speaking to other friends and if I see dishonoring in them, I’ll tell my children, “you need to stay away because I want you to be around kids that you can laugh, joke, have a great time but when there’s an underlying current of dishonor that you can see…” I found something out, Joyce, that dishonor and honor come from the heart. Have you ever noticed you can joke around with somebody and yet, you still sense they honor you but yet, there are other times you feel like somebody’s joking with you and you sense “hey, there’s something underlying here.”
Joyce Meyer – It’s interesting because you have to deal with those things on a daily basis where you’re around it.
